Rear left brakes getting hot
While at location for a different job the customer asked me to take a look at their backhoe. The left side is getting hot after they installed new brakes. I looked over the wheel hubs and the brake hardware. I said the adjustment pins are not set correctly. I returned to the shop to get the tool that sets them to the correct depth. I returned the next day and while inspecting the brake plates for warp i found there is a broken snap ring that holds the differential housing cover. There is also excessive metal that looks like more than just friction material. I advised the customer we should tear down the axle and inspect the differential. The customer said they would put it back together and get it to our shop if they wanted to go any further. I made sure the right side brake adjustment pins were even and re-torqued the retaining bolts. I then set the left side adjustment pins with our tool and torqued the retaining bolts. 141 inch lbs. No further inspection.
