Two major error $1 U.S. Legal Tender notes from Series 1977A

Error notes are not often seen, but finding two interesting errors from the same series makes this pair especially fun. One note shows an overprint error where the ink appears to have transferred to the opposite side. The second note has a dramatic missing print on approximately half of the back.

Now here is our theory of what might have happened…

Imagine the technician at the printing press turning up the ink delivery just a little too much. The press lays down so much ink that it transfers through to the other side of the note. Because so much ink was used on that sheet, the printer suddenly runs low — and the next note ends up with half of the back missing its print!

Of course, this is just our humorous story of what happened. The real reasons for these printing errors were almost certainly different. But together they make a unique pair of error notes and a great conversation piece for any collection. You can even create your own story to share with friends and family.
