***PLEASE CONFIRM FINAL PURCHASE PRICE WITH THE UNIVERSITY BEFORE MAKING
Purchased from Rigaku Americas Corporation, these units are designed to continuously provide a flow of uniform, cold nitrogen gas at near liquid nitrogen temperatures for cooling single crystals in x-ray diffraction experiments. The units involve several components, the first of which takes in room air and compressing it, removes contaminants (primarily water vapor) via filtration, and then feeds the dry gas to a “cold head” (helium compressor) to cool it down. The cold, dry, nitrogen gas is then fed through a controller/heater to obtain and maintain a preset temperature, typically minus 180 degress C, that is then delivered through an insulated, transfer hose to flow over the sample. Although the cold stream is considerably larger, the sample is typically a single crystal of sub-millimeter size mounted in an x-ray beam and is thus maintained at near cryogenic temperatures throughout data collection.
